Introduction

The Skills That Travel website (SkillsThatTravel.ca) is operated by the Tourism Industry Association of Ontario (TIAO). We are committed to respecting your privacy and protecting your personal information. The practices we use to protect this information are described in this Privacy Policy. We reserve the right, at any time, to modify this Privacy Notice. If we make revisions that change the way we collect or use personal information, we will post those changes in this Privacy Policy.

Some pages on the website link to other sites created and maintained by other public and/or private sector organizations or individuals. These links are provided solely for your information and convenience. When you leave to go to an outside website, you are leaving the TIAO website. When you are away from this website, this Privacy Policy no longer applies.


What data does SkillsThatTravel.ca collect?

Anonymous visitors can browse publicly accessible content without providing any personal information. Users must provide an email address and optionally, their first and last name, to request resources and contact us through forms on the website. When you submit your contact information through our “Contact Us” or "Resource Request" forms, we collect your name, email address, and any other details you choose to provide. This information is used solely for the purpose of responding to your inquiry, sharing relevant information, and connecting you with the appropriate resources, or third-party organizations based on your request. We do not share, sell, or rent your personal information to third parties for marketing purposes. Your information may be stored securely in our systems to maintain a record of communications, but you may request its removal at any time by contacting us directly.

We do not use personal information for purposes other than those for which it was collected, except with an individual's consent or as required by law. Once personal information is no longer required to fulfill the identified purposes or other legal requirements, it will be destroyed, deleted or made anonymous. We do not share any personal information with third parties.

Our website does not address anyone under the age of 13 ("Children"). We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from anyone under the age of 13. If you are a parent or guardian and you are aware that your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from children without verification of parental consent, we take steps to remove that information from our servers.


Data collected automatically

We collect a variety of data in order to improve our website and service to our users. This data is collected automatically.

Server logs. As a web application, SkillsThatTravel.ca collects and stores information in web server logs. This information includes the time and date of the request, the requester's IP address, and device information such as Operating System and browser version.

Crash logs. When the website experiences a malfunction (crash), an automated notification may be sent to the engineering team with details about the crash. Crash logs do not include personally identifiable information and contain only the information needed for the engineering team to be able to reproduce and troubleshoot the error.

Analytics. The website may use analytics services to help us understand how users use the site. These services track and report website traffic. You can typically opt-out of having your activity tracked by these services through your browser settings or by installing relevant opt-out browser extensions.


Your privacy controls

Some actions on the information such as deleting information or withdrawing consent may need to be performed by website administrators. Users who wish to perform actions on their information not available through the website's user interface may contact us to request that such action be performed. All requests may be subject to verifying the requester's identity and may be refused if in direct conflict with the law.

Obtain and transfer information. Users can request their information and can choose to transfer such information to another service.

Withdraw consent After having provided consent, users have the right to withdraw consent at any time by contacting us and providing reasonable notice. Users can ask for their information to be deleted.

Unsubscribing from notifications. SkillsThatTravel.ca complies with anti-spam legislation that requires users provide explicit consent to receive electronic messages by opting in. How your information is shared

With a new owner. If we are involved in a merger, acquisition or asset sale, your personal information may be transferred. We will provide notice before your personal information is transferred and becomes subject to a different Privacy Policy.

Retention of personal information. We will retain and use your information to the extent necessary to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce our legal agreements and policies, and only for as long as is necessary for the purposes set out in this policy.

Where is information stored

Cookies. A cookie is a small piece of information that is sent to a user's computer when he or she accesses a website. SkillsThatTravel.ca may store cookies on users' computers in order to make the experience of using the site more user-friendly. We do not store or collect information from users for advertising or any other commercial purposes beyond improving site functionality. We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on the SkillsThatTravel.ca website. We will also change the "Last Updated" date of this Privacy Policy. Any changes we make to our Privacy Policy are effective as of the updated date and replace any prior Privacy Policies.
